You've possibly already heard about this, maybe even signed alread. Or maybe, like me, you hadn't gotten around to signing the petition yet.
Well, there's still time...but only a few days.
Please sign this, EVEN IF YOU DON'T ACTUALLY LIVE IN NYC, because if you ever plan on even visiting here and pulling out a camera to snap photos or video on the streets, this petition applies to you!!! And even if you don't plan on ever doing that again, but want to support filmmaking & photography staying free on the streets of NYC, pleas sign! You can be a filmmaker, photographer, stylist, make-up artist, actor, any crew position, or simply a lover of the arts.
The point is, you want to see that art remain uninhibited and open.
Here's a bit of info:
NYC Camera Permit Proposal the People vs The Mayor's Office New York, NY, 30 July 2007 - The Mayor's Office of Film, Theater and Broadcasting has proposed new film permitting guidelines that would require more photography in public places to be permitted and insured. A new artist advocacy group, Picture New York has sprung up to challenge this new permitting scheme. If these changes may affect your livelyhood, stand up and be counted, join the email petition. Our goal is to increase filmmaker participation in this permit process, and to protect freedom of expression.
The public comment period ends this Friday (Aug 3rd).
